Feng Peng's Award-Winning Design Merges the Mystique of Constellations with the Joy of Birthdays

Feng Peng's inspiration for 'Sweet Interstellar' stems from the intriguing correlation between our birth time and the corresponding constellation. This celestial secret is believed to shape our character and destiny. The designer wanted to infuse this mystique into the most significant part of birthday celebrations - the cake. The cross-section of a cake, akin to the surface of a planet, became the focal point of this interstellar-themed cake shop.

'Sweet Interstellar' stands out with its unique integration of the interstellar theme and the function of a birthday cake shop. The store's central area boasts a large, star-shaped cake display cabinet. The ceiling, adorned with artistic paint and stainless steel spheres or hemispheres, mirrors the illusion of interstellar space, creating a fitting atmosphere for a birthday cake shop.

The design realization of 'Sweet Interstellar' is a testament to Feng Peng's innovative approach. The walls and main shapes in the store are made of a new type of rammed earth material, waterproof and resistant to soaking, presenting the texture of natural soil. This material, turned red to represent the planet soil and the texture of the cake, enhances the store's interstellar theme. The ceiling, made of special frosted mirror stainless steel, adds layers and imagination to the space with its fuzzy reflection.

The cake display area is the core of the store, where hundreds of cake styles are introduced to the guests along the satellite ring of the huge planet. Behind the planet is the constellation corridor, leading to seating areas where guests can enjoy their desserts. Inside the planet is a ball-shaped stage, where the birthday child's cake is placed, surrounded by scattered low platforms and seats for birthday parties.

The design of 'Sweet Interstellar' faced challenges, particularly in reflecting the birthday cake's atmosphere and establishing an image experience distinct from other brands. Despite the space's relatively small size, it successfully conveys the infinity and illusion of interstellar space, reflecting the dual attributes of the planet and food. The pink rammed earth, reflected vaguely through the special frosted mirror stainless steel ceiling, makes the entire space ethereal, creating a dreamy and warm atmosphere.

With 'Sweet Interstellar', Feng Peng has created a space that not only expresses the ethereal and vastness of galaxies but also conveys the delicious taste of birthday cakes. It reminds people of their zodiac sign, of the wonderful moment of their birth, and of the wonderful time of their birthday. This unique design has earned a Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2023, a testament to its outstanding creativity and innovation.
